I couldn't find the movie scene, but I did find the poem Viggo Mortensen used in the movie "G.I. Jane". I like the poem, it was direct without being brash, it criticized but it did not condemn.
Self-pity
I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
